A Semi-relativistic Model for Tidal Interactions in BH-NS Coalescing Binaries

چکیده

We study the tidal effects of a Kerr black hole on a neutron star in black hole-neutron star binary systems using a semi-analytical approach which describes the neutron star as a deformable ellipsoid. Relativistic effects on the neutron star selfgravity are taken into account by employing a scalar potential resulting from relativistic stellar structure equations. We calculate quasi-equilibrium sequences of black holeneutron star binaries, and the critical orbital separation at which the star is disrupted by the black hole tidal field: the latter quantity is of particular interest because when it is greater than the radius of the innermost stable circular orbit, a short gamma-ray burst scenario may develop. Coalescence of Black Hole-Neutron Star Binaries

We review the current status of general relativistic studies for the coalescence of black hole-neutron star (BH-NS) binaries. First, procedures for a solution of BH-NS binaries in quasi-equilibrium circular orbits and the numerical results, such as quasi-equilibrium sequence and mass-shedding limit, of the high-precision computation, are summarized. Then, the current status of numerical-relativ...

Modeling the dynamics of tidally-interacting binary neutron stars up to merger

The data analysis of the gravitational wave signals emitted by coalescing neutron star binaries requires the availability of an accurate analytical representation of the dynamics and waveforms of these systems. We propose an effective-one-body (EOB) model that describes the general relativistic dynamics of neutron star binaries from the early inspiral up to merger. Our EOB model incorporates an...

The Final Fate of Coalescing Binary Neutron Stars: Collapse to a Black Hole?

Coalescing compact binaries with neutron star (NS) or black hole (BH) components are important sources of gravitational waves for the laser-interferometer detectors currently under construction, and may also be sources of gamma-ray bursts at cosmological distances. This paper focuses on the final hydrodynamic coalescence and merger of NS–NS binaries, and addresses the question of whether black ...

Prospects for gravitational-wave observations of neutron-star tidal disruption in neutron-star-black-hole binaries.

For an inspiraling neutron-star-black-hole (NS-BH) binary, we estimate the gravity-wave frequency f(td) at the onset of NS tidal disruption. We model the NS as a tidally distorted, homogeneous, Newtonian ellipsoid on a circular, equatorial geodesic around a Kerr BH. We find that f(td) depends strongly on the NS radius R, and estimate that LIGO-II (ca. 2006-2008) might measure R to 15% precision...
